Started today.
One new artificial tree. £6.99. Pure green. 5ft tall. Argos. Cheery cashier with purple hair and winning smile.
A pack of 12 new red 'velvet' bows.£1.
Two pre-owned packs of assorted baubles, some wood, the others plastic and glass from a charity shop. £2
A big green wooden tray painted with naiive flowers, pre-owned, a snip at 99p. Will be used for holding a gift of festive munchies for Mr Hairy Suit's mum.
A small cut-glass vase, pre-loved, £1 from the Catholic church charity shop on the corner opposite the Co-Op.Heavyish and dusty but has come up a treat after a gentle soaping.
And to sit inside? Two bunches of not overly tall artificial poinsettas. All for £1.
The lovely elderly man doing the work was chastised by a ratty lady customer for calling her 'love'.
He was not downhearted because he carried on 'loving'.
Two boxes of Christmas lights to garland the big mirror over the gas fire. £2. The bulbs are clear, not coloured. Preferring the simple light to the fairground reds, greens and blues.
So I had a pleasant day dodging in and out of shops, not spending too much, not being greedy or too saintly either.
Spent a bit, smiled a bit.
