Last night's match between Spurs and FC Dnipro was fabulous.
Lots of thrills, many yellow cards and one red and, to top it all, an amazing fight back from Spurs.
3 - 1 the final score after 5 minutes of extra time.
Tim Sherwood's team rolls on...
Emmanuel Adebayor scored twice for Spurs
It was one of the best matches I've seen in a very long while.

Feeling Good
Tonight - ITV1 - Tottenham v. FC Dnipro in the Europa League.
A must watch event.
I love my footie.
And coming soon, in March, another must win for Hodgson's England. They are playing likeable Denmark. And I'll be playing referee. I do like to get involved. Mostly from behind the settee.
The other night, unable to sleep I went through a box of my old clothes and found what I was looking for...My England T-shirt.
It'll be washed and ironed in readiness for the March game.
Same sky. Same colours. Different bacon.
And many more tantalizing games to come....

Questions Questions...
The plumber who came to do something to the new bathroom radiator was awash with questions.
Like:
Who installed the boiler?
and
How do you manage with only the one bathroom?
The boiler, I told him, was 'installed' by two cowboys. Ah. That accounts for a lot said Mr Plumber.
Yes thank you said I loudly hoping my firmness would shut him up...
But no, he continued prattling on about good traders and the internet and would I be interested in a new boiler.
Oh go away I thought as mum waited for her Hot Dogs.
Just do what I ask you to do and let me get on with feeding my mum.
His parting question of how do you manage with only the one bathroom left me not only stunned but feeling a bit out of date. "Oh we manage" I cheerfully said.
And I wondered as he trotted off down the pathway how many bathrooms he had. ( while he was sifting through his almighty toolbox he imparted unto me the story of how his wife made him fix their central heating at 1 in the morning because it wasn't hot enough.
My God I thought. What a woman. No wonder his eyes were like sunken mudholes.
Later................
After pocketing my money Mr Plumber went on his way leaving mum and me to stand in our new 'sauna'. God it's hot in there!
And we love it.

All Quiet
As we waited for nursie to arrive I cleaned the bungalow while mum watched the news...
When we had a tea break we talked.
In a nutshell...
She clings to her London home because it spells HOPE,
If she gives it up she loses all hope of ever having a life of her own in a home of her own.
How can I fight that?
I can't.
We reached a new level of understanding over our tea. Believing that she'll walk and see properly again, believing she'll once again polish her own ornaments and be Queen of her own castle is what keeps mum's heart pumping.
I can't beat that.
So we chatted and changed bags and watched Columbo and ate together.
Not much I know... but it'll do till we can BOTH have the lives we want....

Verbals in short supply
Mum and me haven't said much.
I'm pottering about making things tidy, making cheese pastry for my flan tonight, listening to the radio and generally making plans.
Mum is sitting in the front room waiting to go out.
To say I'm pooped wouldn't do justice to the way I'm feeling. It's more a kin to having been bludgeoned.
We're off out soon on the Hockley run.... I'll keep my distance only speaking when spoken to, only engaging when necessary.

Does he take sugar
A man came this morning to inspect mum's inflatable cushion.
The poor man in his late twenties early thirties couldn't have had any training regarding dealing with less able bodied people.
It was a continuous torrent of SHE'S.
Does she get up much?
Can she switch it on herself?
Has she a blow up mattress?
Mum was at arms length and heard every word.
But might have well been outta the room.
Unbelievable.
What a twat I thought as he chattered on about the right terrible north/south weather divide. What a wally too as he joined in my conversation with mum regarding Tony Blair and Rebekah Wade's doings.
Needless to say mum was not amused. This fellow clearly had no interpersonal skills.
To think that there are still people who fail to see disabled people.
After much nonsense I signed his bit of paper and shuffled him out.
We were due to go out again today. To Rayleigh this time. But mum was hurting all over so we took a rain check.
Events we're looking forward to:
Tennis at Eastbourne, Queens and Wimbledon
then
The World Cup.
Can't wait:)

Decision Day
Mr Hairy Suit drove mum and me to London.
It was very kind of him.
Mum had being saying in rather mysterious tones that she wanted to go to her flat but not to collect anything. Hmmm.
How wrong she was.
After a grueling two hour drive (Mr Hairy not used to London traffic) we arrived at mum's cold still home.
After twiddling with stone cold keys and a mountain of junk mail we managed to step over the once very pristine threshold.
Absolutely ghastly.
A shadow of a flat once loved and kept pristine now a dust covered museum containing unpolished ornaments and dead foliage.
Mum fell onto the settee, her coat shrugged up around her shoulders, her face long and pale.
And after a much needed cup of tea I asked her if thee was anything I could do.
"We won't be here long" she said
And she was, as usual, quite correct.
Mr Hairy was, as usual, being gentle, considerate and supportive. But oh boy did I make him earn his banana.
It came about that mum, did after all WANT to do something at home. She'd previously told me that this visit was for something other than gathering up stuff to bring back to the bungalow.
I knew that was a whole heap of tosh.
In an hour we'd sorted through a few dozen handbags, many of which would return with us, the contents of my beloved dad's desk and the expensive clothes left idle uncreased since his death. I hated it.
I know mum has issues but I don;t want or need to keep having my senses roused and inflamed by the scents of the man I love. He was a gorgeous man and a fabulous dad I just wish mum would let go thereby freeing me.
But no.
We spent precious time going through cupboards, even the cupboard under the sink wasn't spared. What for I don't know.
Then, as the three of us sat awkwardly, reminiscing can sometimes be embarrassing, each of us not knowing the right thing to say, mum surprised me and Hairy by saying
"There's no life here anymore, it's gone"
Speech failed me.
At last its happened, mum has finally, willingly perhaps, let go.
For a few seconds I believed her. but I would wait till tomorrow... She's often come a cropper at the last fence...
We gathered up umpteen bags, made sure everything was switched off and I sidled into the bedroom with the strangest feeling that this would be the last time mum would see her flat.
I'd see it again though on account of needing to be there when the men come to collect the rented telly
I fingered his Marks and Spencers shirts, flicking them gently so they swayed on their padded hangers.
"Bye bye baby"

First Thoughts
A lone Blue Tit looking for food on an bare table.
Empathy struck.
The cool morning air made me want to run and run.
Not away, But to,
Life.

I Love Sundays...
9 am. Mother asking Mr H where I was.
In bed he said, loudly.
Oh.
Not wishing to cause a war or upset mum I got up from my sick bed and made tea.
She's ok now. On her second cuppa and belly filled with cereals and hot milk and a pack of Sunday papers on her lap. Yes mum is definitely ok.
I am the monster from the lagoon. Red roaring temperature and puffy face and swollen throat glands. This I thought is what I'd look like if I swallowed two golf balls.
Over on Gloria's Table I'll be publishing a pic of Mr Hairy Suits Birthday Cake. It was a true miracle seeing as it was made in stages on account of my cough/throat/aches.
He took some to work and his boss Paul loved it. I don't want praise though all I ever want is for these ordinary people to feel that someone somewhere cares.

I'm out of my head with a high temperature so haven't been outside.
Somehow managed to bake a cake (took a long time) but now I must listen to my body...A sit down with mother and a cuppa is required. Probably watch some football on tv later. Man City v. Chelsea. Hope it's a corker. In the studio with presenter Adrian Chiles, will be ex-footballer now pundit, Roy (I never smile) Keane. Who I'm not partial to. And yesterday I was thoroughly reminded of the sour faced Irishman when a British Gas engineer came to look at our leaking radiator.
The boys must have been separated at birth...Ugh!
This awful engineer's tongue nearly had sparks flying orf it on account of the amount of verbals he bashed out. No-one could get a word in.
I knew he'd ruffled my feathers when I didn't offer him a cupcake.

I don't get many ideas so I'm thrilled that a lightbulb illuminated above my bonce as the thought flew into my brain "Gloria - the World Needs a New Blog. A blog that is food - based."

Feels lovely seeing sunshine. And it's free. Best things usually are.
Love.
Laughter.
Optimism.
Faith.
Friendship.
Today I'm making Chilli Con Carne.
Tomorrow I'll be rustling up a simple pizza with olives.
I'll also bake a batch of sweet things for Hairy Suit.
Talking of good things...Be sure to check out Hairy's new blog. It's in my Site for Sore eyes list.
That's all for now...:)

Mother Nature Turns It Up,,,,updated....
From my window I see shaking fences, sodden bird tables, sleet. Not a bird dog or human to be seen.
The weather gods have us.
SO while gardens become boggy and the guttering barely copes Mother snoozes. I on the other hand have been scraping off years of paint from the bathroom shelf. My dark denim dress is splattered up top with a selection of old paint, the skirt part, protected by a pinny, the paint that's shooting off was, at the time, so just the perfect colour. Now it's plain hideous. What I long for now is Shaker style simplicity. Bare to the bone. Yet beautiful.
It's therapeutic is simplicity. Softens the edges. Staunches a bleeding heart.
The washing machine is on its third load.. Towels. Orange bath sheets, brown hand towels and mum's red white and blue striped seaside affair.
It's a silly thin thing. One drying of her hands and feet and it's damp. Still, she likes it, and prefers it kept away, separate from our big lolloping heavy towels.
It's calmed down outside. Inside though it's all go. Mother needs tea and I need to vacuum the front room...
Hot tea first then a quick cha cha cha around mums feet...
15:05 pm
I have 80 minutes to myself...
Prepare tonight's tea..Sausages, potato boulangere, veggies and little gooseberry crumbles. Then, a sneaky cuppa with a book!

Starlight
Today I bought a book of Zen poetry and was very impressed with it....
"Zen poems are like word paintings. They paint a picture, a very living picture"
.
Here's my first attempt

A Tea Set Saved The Day
....Our usual trek into Hockley found us in good spirits, despite the rain. We trundled along did Mother and I, all the way to the post office then did a three point turn to get into the first charity shop wherein a very English Tea Set winked at me.
"Beautiful" I said as my shoulder bag bumped into Mother's head
"Getting it?"
"What do you think old lady?"
And, as the tea set balanced on mum's blanketted knees, I envisaged afternoon tea parties.
"More tea my love"
"Oh yes please"
"And another Date Finger?"
Well I'd love to but it mightn't agree with my bowel"
Ok then sweetheart, have another pickled egg"

Tears are in my stomach waiting for an opportune moment to splash out. My feelings running deep.
And as Mr Horsehound fixes the fence panel again, Mother snoozes watching another dvd ( The Firm) while I prepare the Sunday feast.
It's chicken today. A good solid reliable bird. Nothing fancy about it. No fashionable sauces to trickle or de rigeur veggies to prop up the roasted breast . Just peas and carrots and gravy.
A rice pudding will bake under the bird thereby making full use of the oven. Waste is not good. Waste of any kind. Energy, Bread or Time.
As the bird comes out a dozen Date Rolls will go in. Not made these before. As I type some chopped dates, orange zest, juice and cake crumbs are cooling in a pan while a batch of sweet egg enriched pastry rests in the fridge. Rest. Rest Rest. I can never quite associate rest with food.
I'm making these delicate rolls for mum because although she's conservative in her food choices she will sometimes push her foodie boat out.
The sound of Tom Cruise and Gene Hackman invade the office.......

Things I Can't Give Up.updated.
Butter
Lipstick
Eggs
Girdles
Pastry
What can't YOU give up?
Another item I'd rather not lose is the great British Snorker.
So loved up with it that I consume, on average, two a week. They are always thick and fat, never ever would I engage my mouth in the chewing of a chipolata. What IS the point?
Tonight's fare is baked Cumberland sausages (Sainsburys do good ones) with potato boulangere (Delia recipe) and green beans and carrots. To satisfy my sweet tooth a very small Plum Pudding and custard.
Talking of plums.... Mother's new electric cushion arrived this afternoon.
"Don't want it" Mother spat
"Alright" I said knowing this would be her first reaction.
She really loathes the equipment the NHS offer but she needs it and that's the trouble...
The special mattress, pills, bathroom equipment and wheelchair are not seen as helpful aides, to mum they are offensive, intrusions into her life which remind her constantly how sick she is. They smack of dependency too and there's nothing Mum dislikes more than being helpless.
But we struggle on do Mother and I, and today was no exception. We, that's the ever hungry Mr Hairy and myself, took mum shopping. She said she didn't need anything but she needed to tootle orf out. So out we went.
The weather was horrible, rain and bitter wind but with merry smiles ( me and Hairy) we accompanied glum mum around Boots and Primark.
On our way home we picked up some burgers at McDonalds drive thru. She loves fries.
She is a remarkable human being, stoically soldiering on when others might falter.
I can't help but be in awe of the old bean. When first diagnosed with cancer we sat in the hospital car park in a daze but without drama she said in an everyday kind of voice
"Why should I be immune from this, I'm not special"
Three years on and she's still eating chips. I'd say that's special.
My Number One Fan...The Nof can't give up Aunt Bessie's Roly Poly, Curry and Music.
With you on the curry and music but shop bought roly poly..Oh No Nof!

Sunlight makes a difference (updated throughout the day)
I feel subdued........... but seeing sunlight brighten the grey path and add millions of sparkles to a mass of wet grass, I begin to feel hopeful..
So as mum waits patiently for Nursie I will make a Cheese and Onion Tart.
Later.....
If the Cheese and Onion Tart tastes as good as it looks tonight's tea of Tart, buttery potatoes, green beans and fruity chutney will be superb!
As the tart was cooling I made a Coffee and Walnut Traybake. It's baked now and after I've had egg and chips with Mr Hairy Suit I'll ice it. (Hairy's need for my homecooked food is frightening)
Nursie came, Nursie left leaving something for Mother to dwell on...The idea of laying on one's side for two hours. Mother was not impressed.
Our food is prepared.....Hairy Suit is working hard.....mum is watching tv........now a little settee time for me with a Mary Stewart book...

In the shops today all the old dears could talk about was the weather.
I too talked about it.
But I am not old.
Yet.
I'm hoping to be.
One day.
And God willing, or whoever else runs the universe, I'll take liberties, I'll swish my skirts around giving old guys a glimpse of my gorgeous pins, and if I'm single, I'll bag one or two.
As mum and me looked for something for lunch. I spotted some cod in beer batter. Oh yeah. AND it was decorated with a 'reduced' sticker. The fish was old and cold and past its sell buy date.
Didn't care.
"That fish is walking" I told mum. She concurred.
Also bought was a pre-owned pink flowered pinny and pre-loved yellow flowered cream jug.
"Pre-owned and pre-loved?" Tosh.
It's stuff that's been chucked out.
And I'm mightily glad.
Because if people didn't dump their old bits I'd live in a bare bungalow and be running around naked.
Old fish now.

To The Church Shop
The three of us went.
As mum is wobbly she opted for the big beige window seat, Mr Horsehound being more robust fancied trawling through the DVDs, I kept to what I know best...Handling delicate flowery bone china.
Then a woman volunteer came along.
Flat grey hair hugging a been around the block face, a black and grey ensemble of sensible clothes and a manner so cheery I could have chatted with her for hours.
Mum however was most ill at ease. She doesn't do social intercourse.
Mr Horsehound was a gentleman with both ladies.
After reassuring mum I'd be quick I looked at the shelves of goodies, picking up the prettiest bone china crockery ( £3 for three cups and three saucers) . I held them to my chilly bazookies and went to the jewellry section... A sweet lilac and clear stone necklace and a lilac flower bangle, mine for £1:50.
Time I thought, to save mum from the nice lady's questions. (she means well)
As I gathered mum up the kindly Christian type lady told me about her late husband whom she loved very much and how they met in Margate and where they lived in Essex and how different it was to London and how old Mildred, the lady with the shopping trolley died three months ago and what a fun character she was. She paused.
And I sensed she could have shared her life stories for all eternity. And I would have listened too, but mum was clearly distressed by all this happy talk so a fond cheerio was employed.
She said I was good carer and would I like to go the carers club at Hawkwell Church hall on a Thursday.
I laughed, smiled, saying I have a very full diary.
