Sunday Special £7:95!

.......Cooking today:

Roast Chicken with milk gravy
Green beans, carrots and petit pois
Boiled potatoes in their skins
Sage and onion stuffing
Redcurrant jelly (my fav)

and for pud...Apple and forest fruits crumble with custard

A bottle of wine on the table too. Rose probably.

Really looking forward to all of it, especially the milk gravy, a real comforting moreish addition to the plate. Making it is easy. Lightly fry a finely chopped onion till soft but not brown, then add some flour and stir well, add some cold milk and two chicken oxo cubes and stir till thickened. This isn't of course an authentic recipe as made by our American cousins but it tastes and looks gorgeous all the same.

The redcurrant jelly adds sweetness........... and a splash of colour always looks good too.

My crumble is a regular favourite, simple and quick to make and never been known not to please. I like it.
Some puddings will never go out of fashion and this beauty is one of them. I'll have you know I've fooled around with many a crumble, tarting them up with this that and the other but simplicity always win.

Being soaked as I write, another bowl of sultanas waiting to be made into another moist Yorkshire teabread. So essential with essential mid morning cuppas.

Yesterday's poppy seed loaf was divine, is divine, tasting like nothing on earth. All plain ingredients mixed then baked with love and perfect timing resulting in a loaf to please the baking gods.

Now I must fly...:)

Saturday, 29 September 2012

Some meals work out perfectly. Last night's one did just that.

I took a mixture of chopped shoulder and loin pork chops and garlic and gently fried them till juicy and almost cooked.
Then added a handful of sliced chestnut mushrooms, dried sage, pepper and salt. Turned it around in the pan to cook for a few more minutes. Whilst gently stirring I thought about not much, I find I cook better that way.
Had tea.

You'll notice there aren't any onions, well not proper legal onions, just the little upstart masquerading as an onion; the ubiquitous garlic. I love it. Often where a recipe calls for a clove (what's the point I ask) I invariably smash in three or four:)
Garlic is cool.
Anyway there aren't large onions in the recipe, which, by the way is called Roman Cobbler, a gem I found in a paperback written by Joscelin Dimbley, wife of one of the Dimblebums, can't remember which. At any rate it is a fantastic recipe and one I used to make a lot till I went worthy and started concerning myself about the cheese/cholesterol thing. More on that later..... I tend not to fret about health anymore. Mum by the way is looking a little grey but I wheeled her to the shops today, she liked it as much as I did.

Back to last night.

Ok meat cooked and placed in large baking dish. Now to the glorious topping which was firming up in the fridge.
I flinched sickingly on first reading of the recipe...here's why............. I had to take semolina, milk, egg, cheese and butter and make a gnocchi type topping. Thought semolina was for kiddies puds I thought not grown up's savoury mains. I risked it.
How the gluey mix boiled and thickened making it hard to even turn a wooden spoon.
But when the semolina and nutmeg flavoured milk was fit to go I added the aforementioned high cholesterol mix of egg, cheese, butter.
It looked divine. So substantial, so impressive. It was then spread our onto an oiled swiss roll tin and left to stiffen.

And so............Meat cooked..... I took the the semolina from its cold home, sliced it into fingers and laid them on top of the pork. A generous layer of grated cheddar was sprinkled on and into the oven it went till golden, crisping and bubbly bits spurting from the edges.

I always serve this with sweetcorn as it marries so well, bobbles of tender sweet corn as yellow as a daisy go so well with garlicky pork nuggets.

Savouries finished I withdrew from the fridge the best made Lemon Meringue Pie I've ever produced. I mean it was impressive. No sugary wet seepings from the golden meringue and a good wobbly lemony curd sitting fine on crisp dry bottomed shortcrust pastry.
Even I patted myself on the back.

Some meals are memorable and last night's one was certainly that.

Today I'm going for quickness by making  Salmon Pasta.
Tinned pink salmon mixed with lightly fried onions then turned into a pinky sauce by the addition of single cream, tomato puree, seasoning and a careful amount of cayenne.. Too much and it'll mask the flavour of the fish.
I'll boil some spaghetti for it to sit on. Green beans will probably accompany along with slices of homemade poppyseed garlic bread.

No alcohol to drink just water.

Lovely:)

Today's Fare

.....I made a Yorkshire Teabread. Not a large one, a small one, each thick slice will be spread with butter and or jam. I like keeping things simple and this old favourite is that. It needs no more than a couple of minutes preparation, a few hours soaking and forty odd minutes of baking (on a low light)
But the real advantage of this moist fruit bread is that it will last a couple of weeks wrapped in greaseproof paper in the cake tin. If left too long though it will go green.

For tonight's tea/dinner I've plumped for a beef dish I used to make when living in London, American Mince it's called. Another simple recipe which is as easy to make for two people as it is twelve. Take some minced beef, the leaner the better, regular mince is fine but will need to be drained because of the higher fat content.
Anyway fry an onion then as the onion begins to brown add the beef stirring it about a bit. When it's lost its redness add a can of tomatoes, a cup of chopped peppers (frozen is fine) and three stalks of celery sliced thickly. Squeeze in two good glopulets of tomato puree. Squiggle around. Stir it. Then pour in about half a pint of beef stock liberally adding pepper and a sprinkling of salt.
Let it braise.
Meanwhile boil some pasta shapes. I used tricolour spirals for colour and chat worthiness. People I find are interested in pasta when it's not spaghetti. Cook, till it's al dente..

Then drain and de-camp into a large ovenproof with the beef mixture. Stir it up till everything is combined. Fully.
(It looks gorgeous at this stage)
Pop into oven for half an hour or so, lidded.

If you're a busy person...
This can be made a day in advance, refrigerated, then re-heated when you need it. It's ideal crowd food as it's economically friendly and doesn't require loads of time or awkward ingredients.

I'll be serving mine with a buttered roll.

Talking of bread....I looked at my knees this afternoon and the left one reminded me of a cottage loaf.

Wednesday, 26 September 2012

.......Must have been yesterday's exceptionally wet weather that brought forth, on the culinary front, a big dish of minced beef and many dumplings.
Layered with the rich well seasoned mince and stock were chunks of turnip, carrot, onion, swede and celery, I didn't need to add much more, except a few rough dashes of Worcestershire sauce.
I overdid it on the dumpling front making double my usual amount because I simply love them.
Simple boiled potatoes propped up the meat, no need I felt for anything else, although our guest, the ever so resourceful and hungry Hairy Suit piped up that a tin of baked beans wouldn't have gone amiss.
We loved it as did Mother who, for the umpteenth time, insisted that she didn't 'want much' ...She had seconds as did I and Hairy. And  that is why I always make loads:) One taste of my food and meagre appetites turn monstrous.
After such a warming and soul soothing dinner none of us felt much like pudding (!) so just a cup of tea did ok.

Apart from making dinner I baked a large seeded loaf which as I type is already half gone, Mr H making a dent in it with his workplace sandwiches. And, as usual, as it sat on the rack I admired it, not for my baking skills but for how simply beautiful home made bread looks. A still and silent foodstuff shining golden with touches of deep brown where the egg wash has pooled and linseed, poppy and sesame seeds dot the crust haphazardly willy nilly. Oh boy there's nothing quite like it.

But that was yesterday, what about today?
Today....A sausage risotto, lemon meringue pie and, to go with a cup of tea, a moist orange tea bread.

So my dear followers, with all that to do AND the clothes horse to fix I'd better get cracking:)

Monday, 24 September 2012

I've got a cold.

But it hasn't wrecked my sense of taste. Yet. The braised red cabbage and pork chop were smashing.

Get hold off a medium sized red cabbage. Shred it.
Cut up an onion.
Mash lots of garlic.
Chop either one large cooking apple or two tart dessert apples.

Then..
Layer the cabbage, veg and fruit in a big casserole with brown sugar, cinnamon, freshly grated nutmeg, ground cloves pepper and salt.

Add a good glug of vinegar. Wine vinegar. Cider vinegar or Balsamic. I used Balsamic. Never use Malt.

Then...
Dot shavings of butter on top, lid it and leave to braise for a couple of hours in a moderate oven.
Stir occasionally.

When ready....place a handsome ladleful on the plate and top with a pork chop or good snorker. I served mashed potato and tinned peas with mine. Real comforting food to snufflers like Mr Horsehound and myself.

If in the event of having any left over, it's good served cold with meat or cheese. Can be re-heated too, so can be made in advance if you're that way inclined.

I'm finished for the day now so will, after signing orf here, get mother drugged and undressed then fall asleep, hot but not bothered.

By the way, car in for MOT. Yuk and damn. Will be walking everywhere for the next couple of days, to the chemist and beyond. Probably.
With mother clinging to wheelchair arm rests. Definitely.

Good night ALL

So Far Today

Watching the Liberal Democrat conference whilst ironing...With mum in chair beside me. Lively, cosy. Murderous.

Dealing with people on phone regarding mum's financial matters. Wearing, tiring. Ultimately satisfactory.

Looking at my swollen knees. Concerned but unafraid. The pushing around of wheelchair has brought forth Mighty Knees, so unbecoming on a little bird like me. Good thing though...they don't yet knock.

Dishing up yesterday's pork pies and some cold chicken for mum's and Mr H's and lunch. Mum under-impressed with chicken thighs, Mr H's appetite stunted on account of his cold. I liked it.

Due to aforementioned knees I did some online grocery shopping. Quick, fun. Hope I get all I ask. Last time, may moons ago, I got beer instead of beans. Long time ago so hoping for teabags instead of toothpaste.

Feeling in dire need of comfort food I made some braised red cabbage (cooking now) and to sit on top of the sweet and sour veg, lean pork chops. Will probably have mash and peas too. Yummy tummy.
Pudding will be remainder of yesterday's cherry and gooseberry trifle.
Secret of The Day....This afternoon due to downturn in weather I watched the telly eating half a bag of Fruit Jellies. Low in fat so.....

Nick Clegg might be interested. Saw him at today's boring conference, he's filled out since getting into bed with Dave. Suits him too;) My opinion is he'll be booted out before the next election, probably go abroad or something, there's always a place for an Englishmen abroad.

I'm wearing a fabulous lipstick, red rosy with a sheen. Makes me want to leave stains.

Cheerio

Never Knew Pork Pies Could Be So Interesting or Demanding

....All blooming day they took.
First the slicing and tiny dicing of pork shoulder and unsmoked back bacon, then the choppy choppy slicey fingery of slippery oniony.......then a handful of really fresh parsley snipped with tears as I foolishly womanly asked Hairy Suit and Mr Horsehound if the aforementioned parsley had a brain? No was the reply. A central nervous system? Again negative.
I mixed on.

Then the making of Hot Water Crust Pastry. Lol.
If ever there was a pastry invented by God to test our mixing skills it is surely HWC.
Plain flour and bread flour were mixed in a big bowl then butter was quickly rubbed in. Lard was then melted slowly to avoid spitting and obvious burning of skin then some water was boiled to which a little salt was thrown in then the cooled lard was poured in. Didn't look very appetising I must say. But I plodded on, stopping momentarily to re-apply some lipstick.

Watery lardy goo was poured onto buttery flours and quickly drawn together by a big fork and then when it formed a lump was tipped out onto old worktop to be smoothed to a smooth dough. There's something incredibly soothing about smoothing.
Some minutes later it was a ball. (meanwhile the pork mix was resting up)
Now the part we dreaded,, me mostly, the boys deciding it'd be more fun to play with phones and cameras. Bless Grr.

Dough split into two pieces, one large the other smaller.

Rolled out and twelve discs cut out with pastry cutters. Fitted ever so sweatingly gingerly into giant oiled muffin tin:)
Because the dough is stretchy it was easyish to get the dough way up the sides of the cups, what I didn't forsee were bubbles of air rising like wintery nipples.....drove me potty.
But after a long time the tins had their doughy inserts.

Now the bit we'd all been waiting for....the dropping in of spoonfuls of meat.

There was plenty.
Pink meat with specks of apple green parsley and sparklets of onion shards (I like that description) soon sat deep and still in the pastry. Now the top pastry.....Simple to roll and cut out, it soon hid the meat.
For the meat to breathe (!) and air escape I had to punch a hole in the top of each pie so used my inventiveness and grabbed one of mum's unused ( I think) straws.

Brushed over with beaten egg, then studied so closely by the three of us that our noses almost kissed the pork pie, after probing we stood erect.......well satisfied.
Into the oven they went.....

Tea, cake, chatter yadder then out they came. Oh I forgot to say that Hairy Suit took a diabolical liberty (wots noo) by pinching some meat and pastry and making himself a little meaty pastry purse...

Now the part I was most worried about...The dribbling in of gelatine. We did have  a few minor pouring mishaps, but I, Gloria, soon had it solvedo. I found an icing funnel at the back of the draw...

So with the warm gelatine in a small blue jug I poured it in via the plastic funnelthing. It worked.

Now the pies are resting in the fridge till tomorrow when all will be revealed.

Also baked today an Orange and Sultana Traybake. A lot less stress:)

Never Done This Before

I'm making 12 Pork Pies.
Hot water crust pastry, gelatine...the lot.
I'm excited:)

IF they turn out half decent.... i.e. they don't collapse and look edible I'll post a pic.

Now I BAKE

:)

Two 'New' Coats and a Bottle of Beer

..............We  (especially me) were spiffingly happy when Nursie turned up earlier than usual because it meant loads more time for shopping:)
So within ten minutes of Nursie's departure Mum and me good self were on our way.

Quaint Hockley was busier than normal, maybe the sunny sky had something to do with it. At any rate after bagging the disabled parking space under the warden's nazi gaze I once again pushed mum in the sun.
First stop, Haven's Hospice charity shop wherein we spent a packet.
My notes going on a knee length dark grey Marks and Spence pure wool coat. And as mum perused the bookshelves I snuggled into the lovely coat. Oh yes I thought this was meant for me. And so it came to pass that after much cooing and conversation I handed over £6 to Molly on the till. Mum spent too, her cash going on a pink polyester jumper and Carol Smith crime novel. Also with my name on it was a black and white sparkling pendant in the shape of the Queen's crown. Pure Bling.

We left feeling as good as two people with a lot on their plate could feel. How many more shopping trips would mama and me enjoy. I thought this as I weaved in and around able bodied people with that white almost painful brilliance a sunny cloudless day has. Mum never says much when we're out, she's loving it though and because she's loving it I am too, despite, at times feeling thoroughly wrung out.
We carried on to the next shop...

The next shop, by the fish shop is our favourite not because the prices are fairer or the women rougher but because it FEELS friendlier. I get the impression that the ladies who work there aren't avid watchers of Antiques Roadshow. Thereby being fairer in their pricing and non-affected by markings or labels.

We bought stuff. Mum's gems being a bright red wool coat £8:95 and murder books 60p mine being the Madonna and Baby made of plaster. 50p.

We'd been out a while and we were tired. So after picking up three frozen Pie and Mashs we came home. Both zonked in extremis.
I didn't feel like eating but mum, I'm pleased to say woofed down her pie and liqour. Messily.. Bless.

After an early start and the doings of things I'm not ashamed to say I had another headache so with mum agreeing we chilled out for 9o mins or so watching James Cagney in White Heat.
Neither of us dozed orf. And after he shot up the gas works we had a nice cup of tea.

L to R. Cody's Bird, Cody's Ma, The man himself.

Now I must fly I have a million things to do so with my bling necklace oscillating between my very own well oiled domes I'll say cheerio:)

So Pleased With My Tins

....Yesterday's Apple and Almond traybake looked and tasted wonderful. Baked slowly and without peeking the Mary Berry cake looked magnificent in the cheapo foil dish. So fab in fact that I kept looking at it. The cake that is, not the tin. Although having said that I did have a silly moment early this morning when, with tea cup in hand I ran the index finger of my other hand along its rim. Marvellous I thought. So cheep and cheery and so very good. I like it. Methinks a major stock up of Factory Shop bakeware is on the cards....
Anyway back tot he bake......Flaked almonds lightly browned topped the moist apple laden sponge, and when, after much cooing and worshiping I made my first cut the sound of cracking nuts nigh on sent me potty. I think this is one of my best bakes.
The tin I used was larger than I would normally use but it certainly came up trumps..Nothing quite pleases the eye than a cake with good depth. Flat cakes don't ring ma bellz.

Today I'm back to savoury....But first my morning with mama was ok in a kind of sick mother/fraying tempered daughter kinda way. First stop Anti-Coag clininc. Laugh? Nearly. The podge stoney faced pharmacist barely managed to conceal her suspicions that either Mother or I am doing the drug thing wrong.
I smiled very wide as I assured her that neither I or the half baked lady in the wheelchair to my right get anything wrong regarding the downing of Warfarin. "Very mystifying" she spat.
"Beats me too" I said my smile still broad.
We left the room again feeling wronged.

Next stop Rochford market where the sun shone and a big man and I bantered as he bagged my celery.

Charity shop..."OOOOhhhh that's lovely" shouted red haired 70+ Margaret on the till as she folded my blue woollen dress. I do wish these old loves would keep their opinions to themselves. Just bag it.

Out again into brilliant sunlight, I like the sun as a celestial orb but it don't half show up one's lines. But I soldiered on and joined the queue outside Gleadell's the Butchers.
I like butcher shops and Gleadells is a fine shop stuffed full of fresh beef, calves liver and rabbit. I plumped for stewing beef, lamb's kidneys and Worcestershire sauce. The chap who served me had a ruddy face and hands like saucepan lids. His hair? Coppery but limited. Manner and general appearance? Sleepy bear.

Lie Of The Day? No mum there aren't any more charity shops nearby...

And so we came home...
Another cup of tea all over the carpet. Another rushed roll.

Tonight's culinary hotchpotch is Sausages and Apricots in a curry sauce.

"In another life you could have been a designer".
So said Mother as I dragged the calor gas fire nearer the bed.
She made the remark not because the secondhand fire (GIVEN to me by a friend) matched any of the other old stuff littering the drawing room but on account of what I was wearing.
Red tights. Tan sandals. Black and white dogtooth skirt. Red tee-shirt.
She feels I have the knack of putting together acceptably quirky ensembles on a very limited income.
She however needs the best.

And so another morning in the Bungalow of Love smooches along....

Talking of Love I broke out alone earlier this morning after assuring Mother her wobbliness and inconsistent digestive issues would make a trip to the post office and shops a defo no-go.
She bought it.
So armed with a silk yellow and red handbag I drove first to the Post Office then to The Factory Shop where I bought two tin foil baking tins (30cm x 23cm) Perfect for the Apple and Almond Tray bake I'll be baking this afternoon:)

I love buying cooking gear because not only did I part with £1:59 for the aforementioned tins I joyously parted with more dosh on account of buying a pastry brush, big fat roll of baking parchment (costs the earth in Sainsburys) and an olde fashioned tin tea cup, the sort our boys used in the second world war. Truly a classic beauty.
Departing from baking buys I HAD to get something to clean the drawing room carpet. Most of the olde carpet is still decent enough, but the yards or so around mum's bed are awful. So tomorrow with rubber gloves on I'll shampoo it with a bottle of Astonish (£1) clawing my way through it with a nice scrubbing brush. (50p)

Lovely day out today. SO warm in fact that I've done a lotta laundry, nothing quite lifts the spirits than seeing mum's stained sheets flapping around in the autumn gusts. Also online my thick tights.

Now I must fly....Have eggs to boil....Back to digestive issues:(

On Today's Menu

Cooked a succulent roast pork shoulder and served it with plain steamed sweetheart cabbage, glazed carrots with orange segments, indiviudual Yorkshire puds and crunchy roast potatoes. Apple sauce and gravy.
For pud..... lemon milk jelly and tangerines with vanilla ice cream and wafers,
Utterly simply divine.

Will now rest up with Paul Hollywoood's fab book 'How To Bake'.
Have leanings towards and yearnings for his Pork Pie...

Saturday, 15 September 2012

Heading downwards my pale washed Queen cracked her head, a valley gash
But being risen
whispered NO to needed stitches in the head

Belly up with split head skin weeping blood
my soldier Queen obeyed, a bit
laying still, unimpressed, almost robotic, till sterilized water made safe the cut

Swift as birds, my hands like wings, cleansed and covered creating makeshift stitches from shredded plasters and tape.
Did the job.
Was hot too.
And tempers burnt.

Now, laying without fuss, hands cuddling hot tea cup my indomitable old Queen
asks 'where you going?'
'To bed' I said squeezing her purple toes

'to sleep' I thought 'my chance to dream'

Being Lovingly Made Today

Sweet almondy Bakewell Maids baked in a brand new twelve hole expensive baking tin. It's beautiful as tins go. Smooth lines, very well engineered and ten year guarantee. I love it. Almost a shame to christen it! But christen it I will. And because it's new and cost me dear I'll take care of it unlike my other baking hardware which is I'm ashamed to say encrusted with the remnants of well baked breads and scorched buns of umpteen years gorn past. I see it not as laziness but as affection:)

Coleslaw. For tonight. Using green cabbage instead of white. Soaked sultanas, chopped dried apricots, diced apple, chopped onion, grated carrot and the watery addition of sliced cucumber. All held together by a curried vinaigrette and mayonnaise.
To accompany the coleslaw, sliced frankfurters smothered with sloppy fried onions in wholemeal finger rolls with sweetcorn and oven baked chips propping them up. Yum. Ketchup and mustard are compulsory. Ok?

And this afternoon, if I'm awake, I'll knock together a Lemon Meringue Pie.

Giant Wooden Cockerel. Many shades of brown and yellow with rust- red comb
A superb specimen.

Mum was extremely excited when I stuck her Blue Badge on the dashboard. (Delivered eventually after a very long wait)
"We can park anywhere for free, right?" she asked most earnestly.
"Um...well....not on zigzags pedestrian crossings or in bus lanes, but providing the area has a picture of a little wheelchair we'll be alright".
Mum not impressed.
"Yellow lines outside shops?"
"Er...yes, but mustn't be a hazard to other road users"
"And you won't have to pay parking fees?"
"Aaaaaaah, sometimes, depends on the council"
"WHAT!"
" I know....Councils are funny aren't they?"
"Bastards"

Now... as she snoozes..... I'm going to watch a dvd in my bedroom. No restrictions there!

Tiptoeing

No need to wake mum... just yet.

So...

A few precious, sought after invaluable moments for a mummy and pusscat love-in. Probably in chilly conservatory with tea and pungent chicky cheesy bikkies.

Life In The Bungalow

There certainly is.
Now I'm back online, back entwined in the interweb, back to where no holds are barred I will, you'll be pleased to hear be having a hoot a hoot from this day on.
God. It was awful. Awful to the point of distress. My lost connectivity costing me dear.
Not being able to rattle on about super-buys, super food and super boys sent my emotions swirling around like grubby dish water heading for the plughole.
To save my brain, I jotted down thoughts ideas and catastrophe in a red spiral bound notebook, but it wasn't the same as banging keys.
And so after several attempts we, that's Mr H and me good self finally got back online with the help of Jazzywangawoowoo a girl from Scotland sat in a call centre in Wales.

I am now firm in my opinion that blogging IS INDEED EXCELLENT in helping one deal with Life.
And my life at the moment needs help.
Mother continues to improve.
Her decimation of a bowl of chocolate trifle proving to me that BOGOF Cancers don't stand a chance when confronted by heaps of daughterly attention and sweet treats
Me on the other hand feel like burying my head in the nearest man's lap.

Other News>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I see Andy Murray won something. Maybe now he'll marry his very patient girlfriend. Well done girly.
Roy Hodgson. LOL. This is what happens Woy when you take on the worst job in football. I don't know if I can do another World Cup qualifying thing. I'm wondering if Woy wonders that too.
The X Factor is cruel and great.

More tomorrow.
Good eh!

Monday, 3 September 2012

............What a lovely September day, blue sky dotted with sunshine and only a slight breeze.

Spent most of the morning watching mum, true she went out but she wasn't quite with it. 10/10 though for resilience, determination and bravery. Nothing will stop my old bean craning to look up at overladen bookshelves.
It punched my heart.

I've spent a few quiet hours ironing, tidying and generally pottering around in a domestic fashion. Would loved to have hoovered but mum is drifting in and out of sleep so I thought it best to leave the rotten task till tomorrow. Talking of tomorrow, as I ironed and made bread I watched The Day After Tomorrow, an eco horror flick, it's a thrill a minute and made light my tasks.

For the past few hours a bowl of sultanas have been soaking, they now look like watery gelatinous beads.
As soon as I've freshened up and done my make-up I'll rustle up a few Rock Cakes.

Now I must fly.........Want to drink in some garden air before mum wakes up:)

Sunday, 2 September 2012

Just now...

..............As I made Mr H's munchbox for tomorrow I bit into the lightest tastiest seed laden slice of home made bread I've ever baked. It was divine. I lavished on the thick slice copious amounts of Clover, which, I think, is the next best thing to butter, at any rate it satisfied. Nothing beats simplicity.

For Mr H a cold pork sandwich with sage and onion stuffing and soft apple slices, a lemon mousse, 1 apple 1 orange, slice of banana loaf and packet of cheese and onion crisps.
I like making munchboxes. Obviously.

With the prospect of another fun filled week....
I'm orf to bed now with lippy smudged.

Goodnight All.

Sunday Lunch was yummy, well the first course was, the pudding however, rhubarb and almond sponge cooked in Slow Cooker was horrible. Me thinks I slo-cooked it too long hence the overbakedness of the sponge. I WAS LIVID!
If there's one thing which makes my blood boil it's lack lustre food, and the sponge was certainly that. I managed through my tears to scoop out the soft centre so affording the Birthday Boy a little 'afters'. He, being his usual magnanimous self, applauded the titchy dome of sponge and spoonful of cream. Ok I thought as I packed the Slow Cooker away, it'll be a while before I use YOU again. Little Beast.

Anyway after falling asleep due to stress, lack of sleep etc I baked a fabulous seeded loaf and banana and apricot cake. So..............Not all was disastrous in my culinary world.

I've been watching C-Span catching up on what's going on stateside with the elections and all that. Am I getting on a bit or did vice president in waiting Paul Ryan sound and look like all other vice presidents in waiting. The same splurge, the same suit, the same harking back to golden olden days when his Mother, after the death of her husband, rode the bus 40 miles there and 40 miles back to get an education...
I like politics both here and over the sea but it all seems samey now..... sob stories and kids and getting our country back.
And what a difference Mighty Mitt and Perfect Paul would make to America and the World. Mostly America.

Cameron is a plank.

.......Late last night, after mum once again said that she hated god for what he's doing to her, I once again red- mistily assured her He does love her. ?

Jump to inside My head...
Forgive me God but Do you know what You're doing here mate?

Anyway that was last night, yesterday day time was excellent and so that's what I'm concentrating on. Only sensible life enhancing route to take.

Watched The X Factor while Mr H had some fun time out and about in a tree lined street in Leigh. If the man didn't have a getaway/breakaway he'd go potty. So packed him orf in his best shirt while I and my mate Hairy Suit watched The X Factor. Mother chaperoned.
Whens a girl gonna get dirty?

Today is Mr H's Birthday. He's very middle-aged.
I've bought him a great present, more on that tomorrow....He's also been given other more mediocre gifts like expensive free range chocolate and picture frames. His cards are few but given and sent with Love. My one has an old mongrel cap wearing dog hunched over a sweet little table reading. Yep..........Perfect choice.

For his birthday dinner I'm making peppered roast pork with steamed green cabbage, caramelised apple slices and roast potatoes. For pudding a Rhubarb and Almond Sponge with Whipped cream.
Also being cooked and baked. Bread and Rock cakes.

Now I must fly.

~Today's Supplication~

Sorry if I've upset You, but I'm hurting!
